Mission last night, and other stuff
Oct. 27th, 2006 06:25 pmFirst, on the 25th I went to the Rancho Adobe firehouse 1, always a treat. It's nice to say, "Nope, I know where I'm going" when you're in a firehouse LOL. Meeting on Prop J, a bond that will save lives at the grand cost of... $25 per year per home owner. Pay it folks, the engines are in some cases 28 years old or more. Unsafe for the people VOLUNTEERING their time to risk their lives... Now, the least a community could do is provide those that gain nothing by helping, some equipment that can do better than 6 MPH up a hill or breaks down often. YA KNOW? Chief Treanor seems like a nice guy, invited me to come to Station 2 next week to sign up. I think I'll just have to do that... Right off the bat there's some things I could do, be a part of the rehab crew, that preps and checks the firefighters after they come off the line for rehab before being returned to duty. Even firemen need a break during a large fire! And you need to check vitals to be sure they are fit to continue on the front line. Beyond that, being an EMT, I wouldn't mind shifts on the medic engine =)
MISSION last night, that was a cluster fuck, but we got the job done. 3 on the Aircraft (Spengler, mac-Lir, Thaeler) and 2 on the ground (Hosea, and Mikeeeeeeeeeeeeee). The SARSAT system sent us to SFO. They were wrong. WAY WAY OFF WRONG, I PASSED IT, Sausilito harbor area was the actual area. At least my aircrew saved us from a worthless multiple hour search. They pulled us out of the city and back to the north side of the Golden Gate. We got the signal and then the Coast Guard shows up with a helo, doing their due diligence. We chat with SF Sector and the helo, release them, and finish the hunt. I hate the docks at night. It's dark, there's water to fall into, it's all bad, I hate it LOL.
We met with "TUG KENT", famous with all the USCG and local police, good guy. He brings his tug to us, and takes Hosea over to the ship yard we can't access from the shore. After David poked around for about an hour, I couldn't stand not being over there, so I asked them to pick me up, in this little, not toooooo stable boat, over to the docks in question. I went WAY off frequency, and found the EPIRB in about, 7 minutes. David walked right by it a couple times and just didn't nail it. But I did HEHEHE. California Wing's honor is intact! I couldn't let the MOWg show us up! He's in the SHOW ME state, so I showed him out to do it LOL. I even won a coin toss against him, he flipped. He got OWNED! LOL All jokes aside, we worked well together, and got the job done.
AWARDS
Ok, so part of me LIKES awards, but I'm ok not getting any. The problem is I keep getting them LOL. Member of the year for my squad for the 3rd year in a row. ES officer for Nor Cal went to group, and as of last night, Rob reports that I apparently won it again, 2nd year in a row. NICE lol.
Back to work. SEE, I KNOW HOW TO TAKE BREAKS!
