1 More class in the bag...
Oct. 8th, 2003 08:53 amWell, thats one more class session down, Mid-Terms are Thursday... We ran 3 Cardiac Calls, all of them successful, and the fastest times of all 6 squads I bet. I've got my shit DOWN, and I'm flexible as a scene changes. The hardest one was the last one, when our patient dumped on us (heart stopped beating, stopped breathing) in the middle of the hand off from Fire to EMT. I was on the fire crew, and had to get everyone to shut up because the others, REALLY panic easily! I basically got their attention, and gave each person something to do. "You, get the AED ready", "Mike, bag him", "You, start CPR", "And can someone please take care of the grand-daughter and help calm her down please, everything will be fine...", and I still had one person with nothing to do lol. We got a 95%... We forgot to check his skin signs. He would've been cold and clammy, and diaphoretic (sweaty/very moist). We would've seen that on arrival to an actual scene and felt it as I examined him, but for this scenario I should've verbalized that I was looking for skin signs to get that last 5% and a perfect 100%. SHIT HAPPENS! I'll get my testing skills down this week going into the mid-term medical exam.
